FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE FIFTY FATHOMS BATHYSCAPHE FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH BOC II, BLANCPAIN

TIMEPIECE

The 2016 Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph release by Blancpain features an all-blue ceramic case.

What a mouthful of a name. Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph BOC II has unveiled a blue ceramic case for its latest Fifty Fathoms watch. Now, there’s a reason for this madness: the colouring process for the ceramic casing is a tedious one that hardly achieves perfection.

It took Blancpain years of trial and error before it was able to produce a satisfactory result — this explains why this blue ceramic case is considered a breakthrough for Blancpain. Why use ceramic as a case, though? This material is scratch-resistant. Hands up those who are sold already.

The colour on the ceramic case is intense, reflecting the colour of the oceans to which Blancpain is steeped in connection with. This 250-limited edition watch is distinguished by its oscillating weight engraved with the word ‘Ocean Commited’, linking it to Blancpain’s commitment to the observation and preservation of the oceans.

Blancpain’s new chronograph also comes equipped with an F385 caliber, which has a mechanism that beats at 5Hz an hour. This is the ideal frequency for a chronograph as it enables its seconds to be divided into intervals of a tenth of a second. How’s that for mastery?
